Starting June 1, 2026, a lodging tax will be introduced in Karuizawa Town.

<Taxation commencement date>
Effective for stays from June 1, 2026.

<Accommodation tax rate>
A tax will be levied per person, per night, according to the following accommodation rates.

■ Three years from the start of the system (June 1, 2026 to May 31, 2029)

■ After that (on or after June 1, 2029)

<Tax exemption>
The following cases are exempt from the accommodation tax:
- When staying overnight as part of educational or research activities at kindergartens, elementary schools, or universities.
- When overnight stays are part of an event organized by a childcare facility or similar institution.
*In all cases, a certificate from the head of the school or institution is required.

<Other>
The accommodation tax is separate from the accommodation fee and must be paid at the hotel.
